Biography
  • Born in Matsue in Taisho 14(1926) - Now she is 80 years old. She looks more younger!
  • Worked for a bank during the WWII - Most of her bank's staff were female, and she had to dive into air-raid shelter with money and books when the air-raid sirens wailed over .
  • Married and had babies - For her first pregnancy, her mother-in-law wove 'hara-obi' for her. 'Hara obi' is the abdominal bandage for pregnant woman. She says she was very happy to feel her affection, and very impressive affair about 'weaving fabrics'. Her mother-in-law lived in Yumigahama, famous kasuri product center in Taisho period(1912-1925). There was a loom in her house, and Gramma Ashiwa saw her weaving cotton fabrics.
  • From 50's, began an antique store with husband.
  • When she was 60 years old, quite the shop, and learned sakiori-weaving.
  • For approx 20 years, she has woven sakiori fabrics.
