Tour No.07 "Edo Yuzen Work from Kyoto"
Ushikubi Tsumugi Shawl With Ancient Edo Yuzen Work

This shawl is made of 'Ushikubi' tsumugi silk, which is the one of the most famous and highest quality Japanese silk. Recently many silk threads are imported from China, but Ushikubi Tsumugi is spun only with pure Japanese silk. Textile is called 'tsumugi', which is woven with unevenly spun silk. So it has uneven texture, which looks very natural. ( If you buy completed kimono made of Uchikubi tsumugi, it will cost about a million yen.)

Only natural materials are used - cochineal, ai, garcinia cambogia, sumi(Japanese ink) and chalk as dyestuffs, soybeans, glue, rice paste, salt and caustic lime as auxiliaries. Takahashi san studied the yuzen works in Edo Period( 1603-1867), and he says thye are the precisely same material as Edo yuzen works.

Takahashi san dyed with traditional yuzen technique just same as Edo Period( 1603-1867). Its design motifs are choiced from kimonos from Edo Period.

In the modern world, he has re-created Edo Yuzen in the literature!

If you have seen antique kimono from Edo Period, you can find the same beauty in this shawl. Colors are soft and have very natural taste. Details and background dyeing are not precisely even, but it is also the beauty of hand work
.

This shawl never can be dry cleaned. Please hand wash softly with common temperature water, with using a small amount of mild detergent. Please end cleaning within an hour , includes rinsing time. Never leave it in the water for long time.

Drying in shade and do the ironing is basic way. However, after enough dewatering you can dry directly by ironing. If you dry like this way, fine wrinkles are also stretched, and finish will be more beautiful.
