"Kumi himo"
Kumiko Muramatsu san makes her delicate accessories with traditional 'kumihimo' technique.
'Kumi himo' means 'Weave(kumu) cords(himo)', which is used mainly making obijime. You must know obijime - cords for wearting kimono and tied on obi. From olden times, obijime(kumihimo) is one of the most important accessories for kimono, and lots of crafts men poured their soul into maiking obijime.
Muramatsu san uses this traditional technique to make her original accessories. She weaves silk threads and adds natural material ( shells and stones) delicately.
She says that 'Himo'(cords) can be arranged in various way - tied freely and hung with favorite length. Himo accessory has very unique possibilities'.
Her accessories are sophisticated and gracefu. Japanese traditional technique is used elegantly, and at a time it is not too Japanese, and fits to Western clothes and fashion!

Silk threads for Kumihimo. She sometimes blends asa or cotton ( threads in the upper part) .


She is making tassels. She addes threads to the tassel and makes the tassel more thick and colorful.




She uses two kinds of tables - Kaku-dai(square table) and Maru-dai( round table).


She uses 'Kaku-dai'(square table), when she makes comparatively simple ones. Cords are woven towards upward.


She is setting the weight under the 'Maru-dai'(round table). Cords are woven towards downward.


When she weaves complex one, she ues this 'Maru-dai'. She can use more threads ball than 'Kaku-dai'. She is weaving with moving threads balls.
